If you have minor imperfections, like chips and small fractures in the teeth of your smile you might want to talk to your dentist about a dental contouring procedure. Keep in mind that dental contouring is only a viable option for minor imperfections.

At your initial consultation your dentist will inspect your teeth for any signs of decay. This is usually followed up by a series of x-rays to assesses the strength and depth of your enamel. If the damage to your enamel is too deep the dentist might suggest dental veneers or that one or more teeth be replaced with crowns.

Once it has been determined that your enamel is strong enough, your dentist uses a drill or other tools to carefully smooth out the damaged enamel on each tooth. After they are done your smile will look similar to how it was before the damage, with only a few, barely noticeable changes.

Afterward, your dentist might recommend a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your remaining enamel. It’s also a good idea to use a brand of toothpaste with added fluoride as part of your daily hygiene routine.
