Cracked Tooth Enamel Can Be Repaired by a Crown

Posted .

Even though your tooth enamel is very hard, there are still times when something like an accidental fall or a blow to the face can actually crack one of your teeth. One of the most common restoration options recommended by our C & C Dental team is to have the enamel layer of the cracked tooth replaced by a dental crown.

A dental crown in Sugar Land, Texas, basically replaces the enamel layer of a tooth while leaving the healthy internal structures intact.

The industry’s standard materials for a crown include gold, base metals or porcelain. The ideal material that your C & C Dental dentist recommends for your crown will be determined by the tooth’s primary function in your mouth and its appearance in your smile.

At your first appointment, your dentist, Dr. Teresa Cody, will use a drill to remove the majority of the enamel layer of the tooth to form an abutment. An impression will be made of the abutment and all other related teeth to serve as a guide for a dental lab technicians who prepare your permanent crown.

Once the dental lab has completed your permanent crown, we will call you back into our office for a short second appointment. During this visit, the temporary crown will be carefully removed and your new permanent crown will be cemented in place.

If one of your teeth is cracked, you should call C & C Dental at 281-201-4332 to schedule an appointment.
