Bruxism Damages Your Smile

Posted .

Bruxism is an mouth disorder wherein you grind and clench your teeth, usually while you sleep. Unfortunately, because bruxism symptoms typically occur when you sleep, you are often unaware that it is happening! This can frustrating to patients and can make a sure diagnosis difficult. However, there are plenty of waking signs  to watch for. Be aware of these and visit your dentist as needed.

Some symptoms include:

–teeth looking dull and flat

–grinding teeth loudly while sleeping

–damaged teeth or dental restorations

–damage to insides of cheeks

If you find yourself experiencing many of these symptoms upon waking, call your dentist at C & C Dental to set up an appointment as soon as possible.

If you often wake up with a sore jaw, or if you find you have increased tooth sensitivity, you may be suffering from a related disorder known as temporomandibular joint syndrome, or TMJ. This can also make it difficult to open or close your mouth when you first wake up.

If you suspect bruxism or TMJ disorder, speak with Teresa Cody for a possible diagnosis and treatment options as soon as possible.  Be sure to set an appointment with C & C Dental at our dentist office in Sugar Land, Texas. We can easily be reached at 281-201-4332. We look forward to seeing you!
